Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all been forced to move our businesses online. Zoom immediately emerged as the “go-to” for video conferences due to their affordable price and feature-rich platform.  However, news then broke regarding security issues surrounding Zoom leaving many to wonder if they need to find another option.

As a mediator, confidentiality is a cornerstone of my business. Here are six security tips for scheduling your Zoom video conferences, especially when security is paramount.

  • Use a unique and private meeting number for each conference.

  • Require participants to use a password to enter the meeting.

  • Warn participants to keep their meeting link and password secure.

  • Lock the meeting once all participants have joined using the “lock” function available to the meeting host.

  • Advise participants against accessing the meeting via a public network i.e. coffee shop etc.

  • Use the Zoom waiting room feature.

There is no such thing as a perfect system but following these steps can help allow for a confidential and secure environment to conduct your business.
